Pele in hospital for 6 days after routine checks

Sao Paulo, Sep 6 (EFE).- Brazilian legend Pele was admitted to a Sao Paulo hospital six days ago after undergoing a series of routine tests, one of his agents told local media.

The 80-year-old announced on 31 August that he headed to a Sao Paulo hospital for routine tests that had been postponed due to the pandemic.

Although Pele confirmed on social media back then that he was in good health, he has been admitted to hospital since then. The causes have yet to be revealed.

Some anomalies have been detected by the tests that prompted doctors to hospitalize the man deemed as the best football player of the 20th century, according to local media.

The health of the three-time world champion has been weakening over the past few years, which alongside the pandemic, has kept him practically in his house on the coast of Sao Paulo away from the media spotlight. EFE
