Kim Jong-un takes his daughter to watch football match
Seoul, Feb 18 (EFE).- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un took his daughter to watch a football match to celebrate his late father’s birthday, the state-run media reported on Saturday.
The match played on Friday between the military and cabinet members marked the sixth in a series of public appearances of the girl with her father.
“The participants made a firm pledge to serve the people with devotion with renewed courage and in high spirits, bearing in mind this moment marking the spring holiday of February with great joy in the presence of Kim Jong Un and his beloved daughter,” the Korea Central News Agency said.
Very little is known about the little girl, whose name is believed to be Ju-ae and whose public appearances since November have sparked speculation that Kim is naming her as his successor.
But many experts believe it is too early to name a successor, and possibly the secretive North Korean regime wants to portray the leader as a family man.
South Korean intelligence believes she is Kim’s middle daughter and is around 10 years old.
She was last seen on Feb.9 during a parade to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the North Korean army.
The football match was in celebration of the so-called “Day of the Shining Star,” the birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il.
Kim Yo Jong, Kim’s sister and one of the top leaders, was also seen watching the match.
Earlier on Tuesday, North Korea unveiled a series of stamps featuring leader Kim’s daughter.
The stamps, which will be issued on Feb.17, commemorate the first successful launch of the Hwasong-17, the North Korean regime’s longest-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The photos, released by the North Korean media a day after the launch on Nov.19, were the first-ever published images of Kim’s daughter.
North Korean media rarely publishes information about close relatives of the Kim dynasty, which has ruled the country with an iron hand since the 1940s. The girl had been no exception so far.
The other three stamps in which the girl appears are photographs taken days after the successful missile test.
In them, the girl is seen clad in a black coat and posing with her father in front of the missile launcher with members of the unit responsible for operating the weapon.
Following one of his extravagant visits to North Korea to meet with Kim Jong-un, former American basketball player Dennis Rodman said publicly in 2013 that he held “his daughter Ju-ae,” a baby at the time. EFE
