Israeli woman killed in suspected Palestinian shooting in West Bank

Jerusalem, Aug 21 (EFE).- An Israeli woman was killed and a man was seriously injured during a suspected Palestinian shooting attack on Monday south of Hebron in the West Bank, an Israeli army spokesman told EFE.

According to the military spokesman, the incident is being treated as a “terrorist attack” perpetrated by a Palestinian, who is being sought after fleeing the scene of the attack.

The Israeli medical emergency service Magen David Adom (MDA) said that its doctors treated a woman in her forties and a man of similar age who was seriously injured and transferred to a nearby hospital.

“A shooting attack was carried out from a vehicle passing along Route 60, adjacent to the city of Hebron, against civilians driving in the area,” said an army statement, adding that “two civilians were wounded and the wounded woman was later pronounced dead”.

“IDF soldiers are pursuing suspects and have set up roadblocks in the area,” the statement said.

Monday’s attack comes two days after two Israelis – a 60-year-old man and his 28-year-old son – were killed on Saturday in a shooting attack in the Palestinian town of Huwara, also in the West Bank.

In that incident, the attacker, who according to the army is Palestinian, also fled. Israeli security forces have since been conducting an intensive search to capture him.

These episodes are part of a prolonged spiral of violence in the area, which is experiencing its bloodiest year since the Second Intifada (2000-2005) Palestinian uprising. EFE
