Italian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro dies at 61

International Desk, Sep 25 (EFE).- Italian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 61, according to local media.
Messina Denaro died with colon cancer in the inmate ward of the San Salvatore hospital in L’Aquila, public broadcaster Rai news reported.
On Jan. 16, after 30 years on the run, he was arrested outside a private health clinic in the Sicilian capital, Palermo, where he had been receiving cancer treatment.
Messina Denaro became the head of Cosa Nostra after the arrests of Salvatore “Totó” Riina in 1993 and his successor Bernardo Provenzano in 2006. EFE
