James, Davis star again to take Lakers 2-0 up in NBA finals

Lake Buena Vista, Florida, Oct 2 (efe-epa).- More top notch performances by LeBron James and Anthony Davis helped the Los Angeles Lakers roll the Miami Heat 124-114 in the second game of the NBA Finals on Friday and take them 2-0 up in the best-of-seven contest.

James fell just short of recording his second consecutive triple-double as he finished with 33 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Meanwhile, Davis posted a double-double of 32 points and 14 rebounds as the Lakers featured in their first NBA finals since 2010.

The experienced Rajon Rondo came off the bench to post a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists, while also collecting four rebounds.

Meanwhile, Kyle Kuzma, who also came off the bench, scored 11 points for the Lakers, the same as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, rounding up the five players from the team to score in double digits.

Although the Miami team also had five players scoring in double digits, none of them could play a decisive role in tilting the scales in their favor.

For the Heat, Jimmy Butler emerged as the leader of the attack with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds.

Kelly Olynyk finished as the team’s second-highest scorer with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Tyler Herro contributed 17 points.

Goran Dragic and the All-Star Bam Adebayo missed the game due to injury leaving the Eastern Conference champions debilitated against a strong and on-form Lakers team.

The contest lacked steam and generated little interest from fans due to the mismatch, and the result seemed a foregone conclusion

The Lakers set the pace and controlled the game right from the outset, while the Heat, playing their first finals since 2014, never found themselves with a chance to gain a foothold in the game.

Lakers were leading 29-23 at the end of the first quarter, which extended to 68-54 at half time. And although the Heat put up better resistance from then on, the game was already out of reach.

The third game of the seven-match series will be played on Sunday at the same venue in Orlando. EFE-EPA
