French network reports Sergio Ramos to sign with PSG

Paris, Jul 1 (EFE).- Spanish defender Sergio Ramos is ready to join Paris Saint-Germain, France’s RMC Sports radio and television said Thursday.

“Sergio #Ramos has agreed to sign a 2-year contract with #PSG – medical in the coming days,” RMC’s football editor, Mohamed Bouhafsi, said on Twitter.

The 35-year-old Spain captain became a free agent after he and Real Madrid management failed to reach a meeting of the minds on a contract extension to keep the club legend at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ramos’ brother traveled to Paris to negotiate with PSG, according to Bouhafsi, who said that the defender turned down more lucrative offers from Premier League clubs in favor of joining the Ligue 1 side.

Ramos, who won 22 titles in his 16 years with Real Madrid, missed a significant part of the 2020-2021 campaign due to injury, appearing in only 15 of 38 LaLiga matches.

With 101 goals in 671 appearances, Ramos is the highest-scoring defender in club history and one of the top scorers among defenders in LaLiga.

His history with the Blancos includes five LaLiga crowns, four Champions League triumphs – three of them in consecutive years – and three Copa del Rey titles.

It may be his success in the Champions League that made Ramos especially attractive to PSG, who have been chasing that trophy for a decade. The Parisians reached the final of Europe’s elite club competition in 2020, but lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich. EFE atc/dr
