Ferran Torres hopes to be ready to play for Barça in days

Barcelona, Spain, Jan 3 (EFE).- Ferran Torres on Monday said he hopes to be available to make his Barcelona debut within a matter of days, as he was unveiled as a new player at the Catalan club.

“After Reyes (Three Kings Day which Spain marks on 6 January) I will be available to give joy to the Barcelona fans,” the Spanish forward said.

The 21-year-old has been on the sidelines since sustaining a leg injury during Spain’s UEFA Nations League final defeat to France on 10 October.

Ferran joined the Catalan club on a five-year contract on a move from Manchester City for 55 million euro plus 10 million in add-ons. The contract includes a one billion euro buyout clause.

He was presented as a Barcelona player at Camp Nou, where thousands of people attended the event as well as the subsequent open training session.

“It’s a dream, we already know the club that Barça is and how great it is. I’m going to give everything so that it has what it deserves,” he said during a press conference.

The club president Joan Laporta, who also attended the event, said that the player “showed a lot of desire to come to Barça, he has been persevering”.

Torres has not yet been registered as Barcelona do not have a sufficient salary budget.

The football director Mateu Alemany believes that the club will be able to accelerate some operations on Sunday to comply with LaLiga’s financial ‘fair play’ regulations.

“We knew we had no salary margin. We have several options and we are convinced that before Sunday we will be able to register him,” he said. EFE
