116 Ukrainian POWs handed over in exchange, says Kyiv

Lviv, Ukraine, Feb 4 (EFE).- Some Ukrainian 116 soldiers and members of the security services have been returned in a prisoner swap with Russia, Kyiv said Saturday.

“Another big POWs swap,” Andriy Yermak, the head of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presidential office, said on Twitter.

“We managed to get back 116 of our people. Those are the defenders of Mariupol, Kherson partisans, snipers from Bakhmut vicinities, and other heroes of ours.”

Russia also returned the bodies of foreign volunteers Christopher Matthew Perry and Andrew Tobias Matthew, who were killed last month in eastern Ukraine, where they worked rescuing civilians from front line areas, Yermak added.

Russia’s defense ministry earlier stated that 63 Russian prisoners of war were handed over in the exchange, which was mediated by the United Arab Emirates. EFE
