Jenni Hermoso files complaint against Rubiales to Public Prosecutor’s Office

Madrid, Sep 6 (EFE).- The soccer player Jenni Hermoso formalized Wednesday her complaint against Luis Rubiales, suspended president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), for the kiss on the mouth that he gave her at the medal ceremony of the World Cup in Sydney, a step that will lead to the filing of a lawsuit by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

A little more than a week after the Public Prosecutor’s Office offered her the opportunity to take legal action against Rubiales as a victim of an alleged crime of sexual assault, the Spanish national team player has decided to denounce him before the Prosecutor’s Office.

Sources had reported that it was Tuesday when Hermoso formalized her complaint against Rubiales in the framework of an appearance at the Attorney General’s Office headquarters in Madrid to “protect” her “privacy.”

After Hermoso’s essential decision to continue the procedure, the Prosecutor’s Office will present “as soon as possible” a complaint against Rubiales before the Central Courts of Instruction of the National High Court since the facts happened outside the country.

Last week, the Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation after the various complaints filed by individuals against Rubiales and did so to offer the player the possibility of denouncing him for sexual assault and because she had no doubt that the kiss “was not consensual.”

The Prosecutor’s Office believes that the facts denounced – the kiss that Rubiales gave last August 20 in the mouth to Jenni Hermoso while grabbing “with both hands the player’s head” – could constitute a crime of sexual assault.

Rubiales is temporarily suspended from his duties as president by FIFA while it investigates his behavior during the World Cup final, in which he also grabbed his genitals in the box to celebrate the victory of the Spanish team. EFE
