Couples wed in fantasy spots to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Buenos Aires
Buenos Aires, Feb 14 (EFE).- A park filled with roses or a Japanese garden are among the sites being selected by dozens of couples to celebrate their weddings in Buenos Aires during the week beginning on Monday with Valentine’s Day.
The first of the ceremonies was scheduled to be held in El Rosedal, a park located in the capital’s Palermo district, with the green space decorated with thousands of flowers and featuring a dreamlike lake.
On Thursday, the weddings will begin at Glorieta de Belgrano, an architectural jewel from the early 20th century and a reference point for tango fanatics, and the nuptials will conclude on Friday at the Japanese Garden, where attendees may enjoy the beauty of Japan without leaving Buenos Aires.
To book a spot for their wedding ceremony, interested couples have had to register at the city’s Civil Registry office, a part of the Government Ministry, which is also tasked with providing the decorations for the weddings, including floral arrangements, white chairs and a red carpet for the new couples.
Each couple will be able to invite up to 50 people to their wedding, which will last an hour, after which the next couple on the list for the venue will be married.
The initiative is part of “BAmor,” a program launched six years ago at the Teatro 25 de Mayo and which later moved to the capital’s iconic Teatro Colon.
This week, given the increase in couples wanting open-air weddings due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Buenos Aires government is offering up to 28 emblematic sites to people wanting to get married, and since 2016 more than 600 weddings have been conducted as part of the program.
The aim of BAmor, according to capital government authorities, is to provide marriage-minded couples with “a celebration with a personal imprint, with the possibility of having a different (kind of) event, selecting the site where it will be held” from a list that includes local gardens, museums, libraries, cultural centers, parks, nature preserves, gazebos, soccer stadiums and theaters.
