Tesla Cybertruck to launch into market with 4 motors

Washington DC, Dec 3 (EFE).- The Cybertruck, Tesla’s pickup van, will have four electric motors, the company’s CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter on Friday, explaining that the vehicle will also have independent front and rear wheel steering.

The addition of directional motion to the rear axle will allow the Cybertruck to move transversely, while the four-motor version will have a motor on each wheel of the vehicle.

Musk also underlined that “initial production will be 4 motor variant, with independent, ultra fast response torque control of each wheel.”

Calling the electric pick-up truck “insane technology bandwagon,” the Tesla head said the Cybertruck would “not just (turn) like a tank – it can drive diagonally like a crab.”

The company is expected to provide more information about production and pricing when Tesla presents the 2021 financial results.

Tesla’s Cybertruck is expected to begin production next year, although the project has suffered several delays, while other manufacturers have already launched their electric pickup trucks in the market.

General Motors is selling the GMC Hummer, which can travel diagonally like a crab, and Rivian the R1T model, which can turn like a tank, with wheels on one side blocked and those on the opposite side moving.

In October, Tesla removed the Cybertruck’s specifications and prices from its website, as well as the option to make bookings. EFE
