John Cena on Fast & Furious: playing the villain was extra exciting

Los Angeles, USA, Jun 25 (EFE).- Professional wrestler John Cena said playing a villain in the ninth instalment of Fast & Furious, F9, added an extra layer of excitement to his involvement in the tight-knit franchise.

The WWE star plays the assassin Jakob Toretto in the new movie, brother of Vin Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto and the partner in crime of Cipher, played by Charlize Theron.

“To be able to be invited into the Fast family and play Jacob Toretto and know that Jakob was going to be an adversary to the Fast family, that was awesome,” he told Efe in an interview.

“I was already kind of ‘in’ regardless of what they wanted me to do, I really was excited about joining this franchise, but when I heard I was going to be a villain, that was extra exciting for me because that’s something I’ve never done before.”

While wrestling fans await his return to the ring, which has already been confirmed, Cena continues to carve out his own little legacy in Hollywood, where he has already starred in movies such as Daddy’s Home 2, Blockers and Playing with Fire.

But in taking on the role in Justin Lin’s F9, he said he learned how close the ‘Fast family’ is.

“The biggest take away I can share with people who enjoy the Fast franchise around the world is that the family is real, the Fast family is real, on screen and off screen.

“They care so much about these movies and they want to do the best they can for the people around the world who are entertained by these movies, so it gives everyone such a great sense of pride and appreciation to come together and make these films and have the world enjoy them.” EFE
