Johnny Depp says he has ‘no need’ for Hollywood
Cannes, France, May 17 (EFE).- Actor Johnny Depp said he had “no further need for Hollywood” during an appearance at Cannes Festival on Wednesday.
Depp answered questions from reporters after the movie Jeanne du Barry, in which he stars as King Louis XV, premiered on Tuesday night.
“I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood, myself,” Depp said bluntly after reporters alluded to a rejection towards the actor following his high profile defamation trial with ex-wife and fellow actor Amber Heard.
In the 2022 trial, Depp said he had lost work as a result of Heard’s allegations of abuse.
Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10 million in damages, after the jury sided with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Depp was fired from the franchise over Heard’s allegations of domestic abuse.
“When you’re asked to resign from a film you’re doing because of something that is merely a function of vowels and consonants floating in the air, yes, you feel boycotted,” Depp said.
When asked about his much awaited comeback, Depp quipped “I’ve had my 17th comeback, apparently.”
“I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback.’ I didn’t go anywhere. As a matter of fact, I live about 45 minutes away. Maybe people stopped calling out of whatever their fear was at the time. But I didn’t go nowhere,” he added.
His latest film explores the romantic relationship between courtesan Jeanne du Barry, played by Maiwenn, who also writes and directs the movie, and Louis XV. EFE
