Jorginho rescues Chelsea in 1-1 draw against Manchester United

Sports Desk, Nov 28 (EFE).- Jorginho on Sunday was the villain and the hero in Chelsea’s 1-1 home draw against Manchester United in Premier League action.

The Brazilian-born Italian midfielder failed to control a long ball cleared from the United area, allowing Jadon Sancho to beat goalkeeper Edouard Mendy in a one-on-one situation in the 50th minute.

The 29-year-old then redeemed himself in the 69th minute, when he delivered from the 12-yard spot after Chelsea was awarded a penalty for a foul inside the area against Thiago Silva.

Despite the draw, Chelsea remain atop of the Premier League table with 30 points, only one ahead of defending champion Manchester City and two ahead of third-placed Liverpool.

Manchester United, meanwhile, hold the eighth spot with 18 points.

In the earlier round of games on Sunday, late substitute Fernandinho sealed a 2-1 win for Manchester City over West Ham United in a compelling Premier League clash at a snow-covered Etihad Stadium.

Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring with a tap-in shortly after the half-hour mark following a low cross from Riyad Mahrez.

Fernandinho’s strike in the 90th minute all but put the result beyond doubt, but West Ham gave the home team a nervy final few seconds when Manuel Lanzini fired in a consolation shot off the post from the edge of the area.

After the defeat, West Ham stay in fourth place.
