Juventus to play for 2nd straight Coppa Italia title

Sports Desk, Apr 20 (EFE).- Holders Juventus blanked Fiorentina 2-0 Wednesday in the second leg of their Coppa Italia semifinal to win 3-0 on aggregate and set up a clash with Inter in the May 11 final in Rome.

In the last year of away goals counting double in the competition, the Bianconeri’s 1-0 victory in the first leg in Florence meant they could focus on defending and Fiorentina would end the match at Turin’s Allianz Stadium with 69 percent possession.

Even so, the visitors struggled to get deep and every loss of possession was quickly transformed into a dangerous counter.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski did well to deny former teammate Dusan Vlahovic, but misjudged the Federico Bernardeschi shot that put the hosts ahead 2-0 overall in the 32nd minute.

The post denied Juve’s Denis Zakaria in the 56th minute, while VAR erased Marc Rabiot’s goal for the Bianconeri with 20 minutes left.

Danilo scored in stoppage time to put the final nail in Fiorentina’s coffin.

Massimiliano Allegri, now in his second stint as Juventus coach, has never lost a Coppa Italia final and four of the club’s record Coppa titles came with him at the helm in 2015-2018. EFE tfc/dr
