Dubai inaugurates 7-story pillar-less museum as its new landmark

Dubai, Feb 22 (EFE).- Dubai’s Museum of the Future on Tuesday opened its doors to the public, becoming the city’s new landmark with its unconventional doughnut-like shape and cutting-edge, futuristic technology.

The museum aims to be a platform for exchanging ideas between innovators and critical thinkers in various fields, as well as scientists from the Arab world.

“The Museum of the Future reflects (Dubai’s crown prince) Mohammed bin Rashid’s thinking that nothing is impossible… the museum is a global landmark, a scientific edifice, a new beacon of knowledge, a factory for future ideas and the resumption of Arab civilization,” Mohammad al-Gergawi, the museum’s president, wrote on Twitter.

Its stainless-steel façade, which is adorned with strokes of Arabic calligraphy that light up at night, extends over an area of almost 18,000 square meters.

Located about two kilometers from Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, the museum is designed by Emirati designer Shaun Killa. It is a seven-story pillar-less structure that consists of 1,024 steel plates made completely by robots.

The Museum of the Future now joins Dubai’s list of tourist attractions that opened last year, such as Eye of Dubai, the world’s tallest and largest observation wheel, and Madame Tussauds wax museum, the Middle East’s first branch.EFE
