Russians leave parts of Luhansk, heavy fighting in Severodonetsk: Kyiv

Kyiv, Jun 10 (EFE).- Russian forces are withdrawing from some parts of the separatist region of Luhansk, in eastern Ukraine while “fierce street fights” continue in Severodonetsk, Luhansk’s governor said Friday.

“The whole free Luhansk region came under heavy fire. Fierce street fights continue in Severodonetsk. We are exhausting the enemy,” Serhiy Haidai said on Telegram.

“In the Bakhmut direction (in Donetsk), the occupiers are actively using operational-tactical and army aircraft. Enemy units attempted to carry out assault operations in Nyrkovo and Mykolaivka. Ukrainian soldiers inflicted fire damage. The occupiers withdrew with losses,” he added.

The official said that seven enemy attacks have been repulsed in Donbas over the past 24 hours while 10 tanks, seven artillery systems, four armored combat vehicles, three special armored vehicles, four units of motor vehicles and an enemy ammunition depot have been destroyed.

In the last few days, the Russian military has focused its attacks on eastern Ukraine’s Donbas area, bordering Russia, after having gained control of part of southern Ukraine and having opened a corridor that allows it to move soldiers and equipment to that area.

Although the Ukrainian military continues to resist, the Kyiv government has admitted that the Russian troops are superior in number and capacity. EFE
