MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Riviana Foods recently released details about the expansion of its plant located in Memphis. According to the company, the $27 million expansion will double its capacity to produce microwaveable rice products under the Minute® rice brand.

As a result of this expansion, Riviana Foods will be able to create at least 25 additional jobs at its plant, located at 2314 S. Lauderdale Street, and thus have 384 employees in total. These new positions are full-time jobs and would be for all areas of the plant, especially in production, packaging, shipping, maintenance (industrial and mechanical), and supervision.

“We will be in a stronger position to meet or exceed customer needs for the product,” Enrique Zaragoza, Riviana’s Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, stated in a press release, mentioning later that the continued increased demand for ready to serve products in the U.S. is what has made Riviana work harder to improve its operational capability to meet the requirements of this rapidly growing market segment.

To meet their hiring needs, Riviana has been conducting a series of job fairs; the next one will be on January 8, 2020 (La Prensa Latina will be reporting about the place and time in the following weeks). They are also accepting job applications on their website (https://www.riviana.com) or at the American Job Center (155 Angelus Street. Memphis TN 38104), where applicants can immediately submit a qualification test that is required by the company.

“I have been with the company for 26 years and have grown with the company,” said Tim Gyovai, who started out as a Line Operator on second shift and is now the Director of Operations (Plant Manager) in Memphis, TN. “It shows the commitment of this company to its employees in allowing growth within the organization. It is a very unique opportunity to be manufacturing something that you can see in every grocery store across America, with all of our different brands, and have pride of the work you do and then see and enjoy the finished product with your family and friends.”

“Riviana is a great company sitting here in the city of Memphis and we are looking to provide opportunities to the members of the community, individuals who live in the community,” stated Wenda McManis, Human Resources Manager of the Memphis plant. “Riviana is an opportunity for families to support their families financially, be a part of a great organization, be a part of the products that you see in the grocery store,” McManis added, explaining later that Riviana offers great benefits and that their hourly rate is “comparable to most of the higher paying rates in the city.”

As such, Riviana Foods Inc. is North America’s largest processor, marketer and distributor of branded and private label rice products and its second largest pasta manufacturer. In addition to this, it is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ebro Foods, S.A., a leading food company in Spain and worldwide. And although its headquarters are in Houston, Texas, the Memphis plant is one of the biggest ones in the country.

Since its inception in 1911, in Louisiana (Louisiana State Rice Milling Company and River Rice), Riviana has been offering the highest quality food products to American and Latino families, among others. Today, Riviana has 25 brands and more than 500 products – including rice and pasta – that are distributed to restaurants and grocery stores both nationally and internationally. Ebro Foods, meanwhile, manufactures and distributes about 65 brands of food products in more than 76 countries.

Among Riviana’s best-known brands are Minute®, Mahatma®, Success®, Carolina®, Comet®, Adolphus®, Blue Ribbon®, RiceSelect®, Gourmet House®, Ronzoni®, Creamette®, Skinner®, San Giorgio®, Prince®, Catelli®, American Beauty®, No Yolks®, Wacky Mac® and Light & Fluffy®.

Minute Ready products, for instance, are not only convenient and easy to make, but they offer consumers a wide variety and nutrition in just 60 seconds. There are currently 19 varieties of Minute Ready to choose from, including Jasmine Rice, Multi-Grain Medley, Organic Brown Rice, Organic White Rice, and Organic White and Red Quinoa.

As if that were not enough, Riviana and Ebro Foods have four global research and development centers between the United States, Spain, and France. These centers seek to create new products for the consumer, which in turn represent a wide cultural diversity.

“Riviana is really a good place to work. We are a socially accountable company,” Alberto Pascual said in an interview with La Prensa Latina. Pascual is the Vice President of Rice Operations and Engineering at the Riviana Foods plant in Memphis.
