Koeman: The road we have started is not finished yet

Barcelona, Mar 14 (efe-epa).- Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman on Sunday opted to stay positive as the team switches focus to La Liga, one of two titles that is still within Barça’s reach after their early Champions League exit.

“The road we have started is not finished yet,” Koeman told a presser ahead of the Monday La Liga clash against Huesca.

“This team has a big future; there is high quality in the team. We have wanted to turn thing around and this can be seen clearly,” he added

“People are always talking about the young players’ good performance, but we have to highlight the energy of older players such as Sergio Busquets, Leo Messi or Jordi Alba,” he continued.

The team is looking forward to playing the Huesca game that they have to “win to fight for La Liga title,” the Dutch coach said.

Barcelona have recovered from a slow start to the La Liga season to hold the third spot with 56 points, just one behind Real Madrid and seven adrift of leaders Atletico Madrid. Barcelona also reached the Copa del Rey final, where they will play Athletic Bilbao.

The Catalan club will seek to lick their wounds after being knocked out of the Champions League last-16 at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain, who took revenge for their 2017 upset, when they squandered a 4-0 first leg lead by losing 6-1 in the Champions League last-16.

There are “things to improve, such as effectiveness, in the 6-1 comeback against PSG, Barcelona did not have as many scoring opportunities as on Wednesday in Paris,” he added. EFE-EPA
