BTS leader RM releases debut solo album ‘Indigo’

Seoul, Dec 2 (EFE).- RM, the leader of K-pop boy band BTS, released his first solo album titled “Indigo” on Friday.

The album focuses on the rapper’s passion for art, especially modern and contemporary.

RM, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, has been closely involved in the production of the album, including the composition of the ten tracks and the art design, according to BTS’ agency, Big Hit Music.

The title track “Wildflower” also features Cho Youjeen, of the South Korean rock band Cherry Filter, and has been produced by DOCSKIM, who worked with the iconic band Seo Taiji and Boys, a 1990s band that is considered the first K-pop group.

Among the other artists who have collaborated on “Indigo” are British singer-songwriter Mahalia, American singer Erykah Badu and American rapper Anderson Paak as well as Korean-Canadian rapper Tablo, of hip-hop group Epik High.

RM, 28, wanted the entire album to revolve around dark blue tones and in the photos for the album’s promotion he is seen posing in front of “Blue” a 1972 painting by Yun Hyong-keun, associated with the Dansaekhwa movement, a monochromatic style of painting that appeared in Korea in the 1960s, and one of his favorite artists.

RM, who previously released two solo “mixtapes” in 2015 and 2018, is an avid art collector and has made donations for the preservation and promotion of Korean art.

The release of “Indigo” comes after BTS announced a hiatus in October until at least 2025.

During this period, the seven members, RM, Jimin, Jin, V, Suga, J-Hope and Jungkook, will serve in the military – which in South Korea is compulsory for all able-bodied males for a minimum of 18 months – and focus on solo projects. EFE
