Basta con nada más entrar en su página de Facebook o encender la televisión para ver las noticias, y vamos a encontrar injusticias, crímenes descabellados y una crisis a nivel mundial por política y corrupción. No cabe duda que estamos viviendo tiempos históricos de mucha violencia y que llegar a algún acuerdo para beneficio del bien común no está al alcance porque reinan los intereses monetarios o personales. Toda esta descabellada falta de conciencia por un mejor mundo es el resultado del hambre por el poder.
En la Filantropía de Cultura nos enfocamos en el uso de la cultura como un aporte al desarrollo económico y la innovación social. Usted ha de preguntarse entonces, ¿cómo puede la cultura darnos herramientas para cambiar el curso de la historia?, le aseguro que lo puede y lo hace. La cultura nos unifica porque valoramos lo mismo y porque compartimos el mismo idioma, esto nos da el poder de ser más los que queremos un mundo donde haya más justicia. Nuestra participación en el voto, el contenido que desarrollemos en el idioma que compartimos, el empuje de unificarnos para recaudar fondos hacia alguna causa común y la oportunidad de educar a las nuevas generaciones bajo unos valores culturales unificados. Todo eso es poder.
Es posible que estemos en desacuerdo en cómo identificarnos, sea hispanos, Raza, latinos, Latinx, inmigrantes, latinoamericanos, americanos, etc. Lo que no podemos negar es que compartimos aspectos de nuestra cultura y que esa es nuestra más poderosa arma. Cada cual tiene sus propias prioridades y batallas que luchar, siempre y cuando se luchen dejando la cultura en alto y aportando su aprendizaje a otros; cada cual estará aportando hacia la unificación cultural que nos da el poder de definir el curso de la historia. Ninguna crisis es eterna, la esperanza está siempre allí como una opción para diseñar un mejor futuro.

It doesn’t take more than a couple of minutes of perusing through social media or watching the news on television to realize that we are living through a complex period in history. Major injustices, bizarre crimes, and a global crisis due to politics and corruption. Arriving at any sort of agreement for the benefit of the common good seems out of reach, because monetary or personal interests reign. It all boils down to hunger for power that results in lack of empathy for others.
In Culture Philanthropy we focus on the use of culture as an asset in economic development and social innovation. However, “how can culture provide us with the tools to change the course of history? I assure you it can, and it already does. Culture unifies us because we share the same values, we also share a common language; this gives us the power of being a larger number that wants a world where there is more justice. Our participation in elections, the valuable content we can develop in the language we share, reporting any abuse of power, the ability to work together to raise funds for a common cause, and the opportunity to educate new generations under the same cultural values; that is it. That is the power we can use for the common good.
We are free to disagree on how we identify ourselves, be it Hispanic, Raza, Latino, Latinx, immigrants, Latin Americans, Americans, etc. What we cannot deny is how we share aspects of our culture, that unity is our most powerful weapon. Everyone has their own priorities and battles to fight, and as long as they apply their cultural values and contribute their learning to others, they will be working towards cultural unification. Our culture is powerful, and we can use it to define the course of history. Crises are not forever; hope is always an option to design a better future.
