A continuación:

Si no, ¿qué otras canciones has compuesto?

LPL: ¿Ésta será tu primera visita a Memphis?

To learn more about Mandy Gonzalez, La Prensa Latina had an exclusive interview with her:

LPL: Where were you born?

Mandy Gonzalez: I was born in Santa Clarita Valley, California.

LPL: Tell me a little bit about your solo album… Why did you decide to release one now and why the title “Fearless”?

Mandy Gonzalez: A solo album has always been on my bucket list, as it is for many artists, and no time seemed better than the present! Fearless is a result of a movement that I started on social media, the hashtag “#FearlessSquad” that came out of my need for a place that felt uplifting and positive on social media. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my Fearless Squad, my parents and my family, and I wanted to create an online squad that anyone could be a part of! After telling Lin all of this, he wrote the title track, and it was all so fitting!

LPL: I’ve noticed that some of the songs are in English and Spanish, is there a reason behind this?

Mandy Gonzalez: I think it’s important to represent myself, and to let people see who I am, a Mexican-American whose heritage influences my artistic choices.

LPL: After watching your video “Fearless,” I could see the importance and meaning of this word for many immigrants. These lyrics are very deep and the song itself is very inspirational, especially today with the current immigration policies. What else can you say about this song in particular?

Mandy Gonzalez: The song, for me, offers a sense of hope, especially the lyrics describing my parents, “I am here because they were fearless.” I wouldn’t be where I am without the risks and fearlessness of my parents, and many others who came before me to pave the way for the life I am able to lead.

LPL: Is this your first time writing songs? If not, what other songs have you written?

Mandy Gonzalez: All of the songs on “Fearless” were actually written by my dear friends, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tom Kitt, Jennifer Nettles, and Bill Sherman. I admire their work immensely, so it was important to me to have their work represented on my first solo album!

LPL: How was your experience working with Lin-Manuel Miranda on this album?

Mandy Gonzalez: Any time I’ve had the opportunity to work with Lin, it’s magic, he exudes so much passion and joy that it’s infectious. I was so honored when he agreed to write the title track for “Fearless” because, as you probably know, he’s the busiest man in the world, but always willing to say, “Yes,” for a friend.

LPL: What other projects do you have in mind for the future? Will you work on another album, are there other TV shows, musicals, or even movies?

Mandy Gonzalez: Right now, I have the pleasure of playing Lucy Knox on Madame Secretary, but my favorite role is mom to my 6-year-old daughter. I’m sure there will be more coming down the line. For now, Hamilton and my daughter keep me very busy!

LPL: What do you love doing more, acting or singing?

Mandy Gonzalez: I love both! Both are such great tools for telling stories, and natural extensions of myself!

LPL: Will this be your first visit to Memphis?

Mandy Gonzalez: Yes! I’m so excited! I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to visit Sun Records and Graceland, or at least enjoy some Memphis BBQ!

LPL: How would you describe your concert, what can people expect from it?

Mandy Gonzalez: My concert is a direct reflection of me, and helps me connect and explain myself and my story through my own songs, and some of my favorite songs of all time! My intention is that everyone can enjoy my concert, no matter their age or musical interest, you’ll hear old favorites, new takes on songs you love, and, of course, “Fearless”!

LPL: Can you tell me a little bit about your performance in Hamilton?

Mandy Gonzalez: I play Angelica Schuyler, the oldest of the Schuyler sisters. My performance is informed by the real relationships I’ve been fortunate to form with my cast mates and the direction of Tommy Kail, and of course the incredible music and score from Lin-Manuel, and Alex Lacamoire. Angelica is fiercely independent but extremely kind and intelligent, traits that I hope to embody in my own life, and a legacy that I’m proud to portray.

LPL: How do you see or what can you say about the latest impact of Latinos in the U.S., specifically in anything related to music, theatre, TV or Hollywood?

Mandy Gonzalez: We are here! I see Latino artists rising, and it’s only natural! I’m so proud to support my fellow Latinos on Broadway, in television, and in music, artists and friends who create amazing things and are doing so much good for the world!

In addition to starring in “Hamilton,” Mandy’s other credits in Broadway include “Wicked,” where she starred as Elphaba, the witch of the west – “Wicked” is one of the most important musical productions on Broadway as well. Most recently, the Mexican-American artist had a recurring role on the ABC’s drama thriller “Quantico.” On Sunday nights, she can be seen on the CBS hit “Madam Secretary.”
