Laporta: ‘what is happening is one of the scenarios that we expected’

Barcelona, Sep 15 (EFE).- FC Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta on Wednesday said that the team’s current situation is one of the “expected” scenarios, a day after their 3-0 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League opener.

“I am as disappointed and upset as you all are. I need to tell you that what is happening is one of the situations that we expected,” he said in a video posted to the club’s social media.

He asked fans for their “trust and time” and “do not doubt that we will solve the situation”.

Laporta’s remarks came after Barcelona was comfortably beaten by Bayern Munich at the Camp Nou in their first Champions League game of the post-Lionel Messi era.

The Catalan club has been struggling with financial problems as their debts reached 1.35 billion euro, according to Laporta, who has blamed his predecessor Jose Maria Bartomeu for the crisis.

Amid these difficulties, Barcelona was unable to extend Messi’s contract and the Argentine star left for Paris Saint Germain. EFE
