Biden to Present an Immigration Reform as Soon as His Administration Begins

WASHINGTON, D.C. (American Progress) — The incoming Biden administration can jump-start a series of crucial immigration reforms by issuing a clear and expansive executive order in its first days in office, according to a new column released today by the Center for American Progress. Such an order would lay out a clear condemnation of the damaged system that he is inheriting, articulate a vision for the direction in which he will take things over the course of his term in office, and make initial, urgently needed changes consistent with that vision.
These would include the imposition of a 100-day moratorium on deportations while the administration conducts a comprehensive review of outstanding cases and develops a set of sensible enforcement priorities. The changes put in motion through such an executive order would, over the course of the first 100 days and beyond, help to build an immigration system that is more fair, humane, and workable.
As part of the executive order, President-elect Joe Biden should immediately rescind executive orders and policies that run counter to those values and objectives and task Cabinet secretaries with the responsibility of delivering new plans and policies on a series of issues consistent with the administration’s vision.
The Biden administration should also work closely with the new Congress to use all legislative tools to enact legislation without delay.

WASHINGTON (La Opinión) — El presidente electo Joe Biden tiene como prioridad la reforma migratoria y adelantó que enviará su proyecto al Congreso apenas comience su administración.
El demócrata también tiene otras prioridades que trabajará en paralelo, como la atención a la recuperación económica ante la pandemia del coronavirus.
“Presentaré un proyecto de ley de inmigración de inmediato y lo enviaré a los comités (del Congreso) apropiados para iniciar el proceso”, dijo en Wilmington, Delaware.
Agregó que su plan es revertir las políticas migratorias del presidente Donald Trump.
Expertos, como el Dr. Néstor Castillo, consideran que modificar los lineamientos migratorios impuestos por el republicano es posible a través de órdenes ejecutivas.
“Una de las (acciones) más fáciles es (que) toda acción ejecutiva que el presidente Trump ha tomado puede ser revertida por otra acción ejecutiva del presidente Biden; se puede llevar a cabo inmediatamente”, indicó.
En el mismo tenor, Tom Jawetz, vicepresidente de Política de Inmigración del Centro para el Progreso Americano (CAP), dijo que esas acciones desde el Ejecutivo pueden ayudar a remoldear el sistema migratorio, incluida “una moratoria de 100 días a las deportaciones”.
Para Biden podría ser más fácil avanzar con sus planes desde el Congreso, luego de que los demócratas lograran la mayoría en el Senado y, con ello, el control de esa rama del gobierno.
