UK raises threat level to severe after Liverpool terror incident

London, Nov 15 (EFE).- The United Kingdom on Monday raised the terror threat level to severe after a car explosion near a hospital in Liverpool on Sunday was declared a terror incident.

The passenger of the cab was killed and the driver injured after the car was engulfed by flames at the drop-off area near the entrance to Liverpool Women’s hospital shortly after 11:00 GMT on Sunday.

The Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) said the blast was caused by an improvised homemade explosive device carried by the cab’s passenger.

The cabbie, David Perry, managed to escape the car after which he was treated in hospital for injuries.

The cabbie reportedly picked up the man some 10 minutes before the incident, according to the CTPNW.

Four suspects have been arrested under the Terrorism Act while the motivations behind the attack, which took place on Remembrance Sunday, are yet to be determined.

The UK’s home secretary Priti Patel said the threat level has been escalated from substantial to severe because this was the second incident in a month.

The first was the assassination of Conservative MP David Amess, who was stabbed to death at a church in Leigh-on-Sea in his constituency surgery in Essex. EFE
