Liverpool end Anfield drought with win over Aston Villa

Sports Desk, Apr 10 (EFE).- Trent Alexander-Arnold struck late to claim a 2-1 victory for Liverpool over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Reds thus avoided what would have been a seventh home defeat in a row and kept their aspirations for a top-four finish alive.

Villa forward Ollie Watkins put the Birmingham visitors ahead in the 43rd minutes after John McGinn’s pass split the Liverpool defense.

Liverpool thought they had found an answer just minutes later when Roberto Firmino hit the back of the net only for his run to be ruled offside following a VAR review.

Mohamed Salah headed home at close range to level the scoreline in the 57th minute.

Five minutes later Watkins came close to giving Villa the advantage but his shot hit the post.

Trezeguet came down near the Liverpool goal after a challenge from Alexander-Arnold and later limped off the pitch with an apparent knee injury.

It wasn’t until the 91st minute that Liverpool could seal the three points with a thumping long-range shot from Alexander-Arnold.

The win puts Liverpool up into fourth place pending the rest of the weekend’s results. EFE
