Local Candidate Seeks to Reform the Judicial System in Memphis and Shelby County
Candidato local busca reformar el sistema judicial en Memphis y el condado de Shelby

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — Attorney at Law Larry E. Parrish is one of the judicial candidates that are running in the upcoming State/County General Elections and Memphis Special Elections.
In an interview with La Prensa Latina, the lawyer born in Nashville, TN, and with vast experience in the legal field in Memphis since 1966, indicated that, if elected as a judge of Division VIII in the Shelby County Circuit Court, one of his priorities would be to reform the judicial system of the City of Memphis and Shelby County, so that there is total neutrality when it comes to ruling in court.
“It is all about reforming the judiciary to ensure that all judges remain open-minded (neutral),” Parrish said. “I see how the courts operate now and I saw how they did when they were operating like they were supposed to; and now there’s such a change, we have lost our courts to be honest about it because the people who are judges now came up in a different era. They don’t consider themselves so bound by the law; they sort of make it come out right. There is no stability in the law.”
His other priorities are:
– A strict adherence to rule of law without concern for the results or outcome if rule of law is applied.
– The elimination of interference by judges with the function of juries, by slanted jury instructions, by indicative remarks in the presence of jurors and by the Thirteenth Juror Rule.
“People ask me how Division VIII would be different if I am elected, and the short answer is, ‘I don’t think anything will be the same, except for the furniture.’ I would make a lot of changes very quickly. I would contact every lawyer that has a case in the court, and I would tell them how the cases would be administered,” the lawyer stated, adding that the proceeding will be public as well, with cameras in the courtroom.
The State/County General, Town of Arlington, Memphis Special, and State/Federal Primary Election will be held in all precincts that are located in Shelby County, TN, tomorrow, August 4, 2022, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — El Lic. Larry E. Parrish es uno de los candidatos judiciales en estas Elecciones Generales Estatales/Federales, del Condado de Shelby y de la Ciudad de Memphis.
En una entrevista con La Prensa Latina, el abogado nacido en Nashville, TN, y con una vasta experiencia en el campo legal en Memphis desde 1966, indicó que, de ser electo como juez de la División VIII en el Tribunal de Circuito del Condado de Shelby, una de sus prioridades sería reformar el sistema judicial de la ciudad de Memphis y el condado de Shelby, de manera que haya una total neutralidad a la hora de dictar un fallo en el juzgado.
“Se trata de reformar el poder judicial para garantizar que todos los jueces mantengan la mente abierta (neutral)”, dijo Parrish, agregando que dicho sistema debe volver a ser lo que un día fue, exactamente para lo que fue diseñado. “Veo cómo funcionan los tribunales ahora y vi lo que hicieron cuando estaban operando de la manera en que se suponía que debían hacerlo; y ahora hay un gran cambio, hemos perdido a nuestros tribunales para ser honesto al respecto porque las personas que son jueces ahora surgieron en una era diferente. Ellos no consideran que deben regirse por la ley obligatoriamente; más bien toman su decisión según les parece. No hay estabilidad en la ley”.
Otras de sus prioridades son:
– Llevar a cabo el cumplimiento estricto de la ley sin preocuparme por los resultados.
– Eliminar cualquier tipo de interferencia de los jueces en la función del jurado.
“La gente me pregunta cómo sería la División VIII (tribunal civil) si soy elegido, y la respuesta breve es: ‘No creo que nada vuelva a ser igual, excepto por los muebles’. Yo haría muchos cambios rápidamente. Me pondría en contacto con todos los abogados que tienen un caso en la corte y les diría cómo se administrarían esos casos”, agregó el abogado, quien además mencionó que el procedimiento sería público, con cámaras en la sala del tribunal.
Las Elecciones Primarias Estatales y Federales, así como las Elecciones Estatales y del Condado, las de la Ciudad de Arlington y las Elecciones Especiales de Memphis, se estarán llevando a cabo en todas las salas y recintos del Condado de Shelby, TN, mañana, 4 de agosto del 2022, entre las 7 a.m. y las 7 p.m.
