SIN FIRMA O VETO, EL GOBERNADOR HASLAM PERMITE QUE LA HB 2315 SE CONVIERTA EN LEY

WITHOUT SIGNATURE OR VETO, GOVERNOR HASLAM ALLOWS HB 2315 TO BECOME LAW

MEMPHIS, TN (CUUV/LPL) — Sin la firma o el veto del gobernador, la ley anti-inmigrante de Tennessee HB 2315 se convirtió en ley, lo que hace que nuestro estado sea oficialmente peligroso y nada seguro para nuestras familias.

El gobernador Haslam ignoró las protestas públicas, así como los correos electrónicos, las cartas y campañas de firmas de los residentes de Tennessee que se oponían a esta ley, una que entrará en vigor en enero del 2019.

Esta ley, además de hacer que Tennessee no sea acogedor para la comunidad inmigrante, promueve un ambiente hostil ya que trata de convertir la aplicación de la ley local en una herramienta para la máquina de deportaciones masivas, empujando a las agencias de autoridad a actuar como agentes de inmigración y poniendo en peligro las prácticas policiales de sentido común que son de ayuda para las agencias del gobierno local y la aplicación de la ley.

La ley HB 2315 es claramente un movimiento del año electoral, temerario, imprudente e inmoral que oficialmente abre la puerta al uso de perfiles raciales por parte de las fuerzas del orden en Tennessee; también infunde miedo a nuestras comunidades inmigrantes, afectando la economía y las perspectivas de la fuerza de trabajo en nuestro estado.

“Creemos que, al aprobar esta ley, el estado de Tennessee ha retrocedido y elegido el mal camino. Me pregunto si el gobernador consideró los efectos negativos que tendrá esta ley, si consideró lo que sucederá, por ejemplo, con las víctimas inmigrantes de delitos o de violencia, o si ha pensado por un momento en cómo esto afectará a miles de niños y jóvenes nacidos aquí de padres inmigrantes y que tienen derecho al amor de sus familias pero ahora tendrán que vivir con un miedo constante. Estoy realmente preocupada por todo esto“, dijo Verónica Márquez, de Comunidades Unidas en Una Voz (CUUV).

Uno de los efectos potenciales de esta ley es que la relación entre los inmigrantes y el sistema de justicia se verá mucho más afectada. Las víctimas no van a querer reportar los crímenes ocurridos ni colaborar con los abogados de la Fiscalía en casos abiertos activos. “Esta nueva ley no sólo se enfocará en las personas indocumentadas, sino que afectará a todos los inmigrantes, creando también una brecha en la relación con el sistema de justicia y obligando a nuestras comunidades a esconderse”, señaló Iván Flores, miembro de Workers Interfaith Network y CUUV.

Para CUUV, esto significa continuar con el trabajo que han estado realizando durante los últimos años. “Como una comunidad, debemos organizarnos para luchar contra los abusos y la separación de las familias”, concluyó Mario Mercado, miembro de CUUV.

MEMPHIS, TN (CUUV) — Without signature or veto from the Governor, the anti-immigrant HB 2315 Tennessee law became law, making our state officially dangerous and not safe for our families.

Governor Haslam ignored public protests, emails, letters, and signatures campaigns from Tennessee residents opposing this law, and this is going to allow it to go into effect in January 2019.

This law, in addition to making Tennessee not welcoming for the immigrant community, promotes a hostile environment since it tries to turn local law enforcement into a tool for the massive deportations machine, pushing agencies to act as immigration agents and endangering common sense policing practices that are of help to local government and law enforcement agencies.

HB 2315 is clearly an election year move, rash, unwise, and immoral that officially opens the door to the use of racial profiling by law enforcement in Tennessee, inflicts fear in our immigrant communities, and affects the economy and labor force prospects of our state.

“We feel that, in passing this law, the State of Tennessee has regressed and chosen the wrong path. I wonder if the Governor considered the negative effects that this law will have, if he considered what will happen, for example, with the immigrant victims of crime or of domestic violence, or if he has thought for a moment in how this will affect thousands of children and young people born of immigrant parents and that have the right to the love of their families but now will have to live in constant fear. I am really worried about all this”, said Veronica Marquez from Comunidades Unidas en Una Voz (CUUV).

One of the potential effects of this law affects the relationship between immigrants and the justice system, both when reporting crimes as victims and when collaborating with local District Attorneys in active open cases. “This new law is not only going to focus on undocumented people but it will affect all immigrants, also creating a breach in the relationship with the justice system, driving our communities underground”, pointed Iván Flores, member of Workers Interfaith Network and CUUV.

For CUUV, this means continuing the work we have done through the past years. “As a community, we must organize to fight against the abuses and the separation of families”, concluded Mario Mercado, member of CUUV.
