London’s Notting Hill carnival returns after pandemic hiatus

London, Aug 28 (EFE).- West London’s Notting Hill Carnival on Sunday made its in-person comeback for the first time since 2019, after several cancellations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The annual carnival, the world’s second-largest and Europe’s biggest street festival, has once again brought together music bands, dancers, street food vendors, as well as thousands of people who flocked there for the celebrations early in the morning.

The organizers said that this year’s high cost of living had impacted the planned activities at the carnival, which had been online in recent years.

Carnival participants were asked to observe 72 seconds of silence Sunday and Monday to remember the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire, which left 72 people dead on June 14, 2017.EFE
