Lucas Vazquez out till season’s end; Valverde doubtful for Liverpool clash

Madrid, Apr 11 (EFE).- Real Madrid’s Lucas Vazquez is to be sidelined for the rest of the season with a left knee ligament strain, while Fede Valverde is doubtful for the Liverpool clash following a strong blow to the sole of the foot, the club said Sunday.

The Spanish winger sustained the injury as he collided with Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets in a challenge for the ball and was replaced with two minutes to go before the first-half stoppage time in Saturday’s Clásico.

“Following tests carried out today on Lucas Vazquez by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a sprain to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee,” Real Madrid said in a statement on Sunday.

Although the Spanish powerhouse said that “his recovery will continue to be assessed,” his injury typically takes around eight weeks to heal.

Vazquez’s injury was not the only bit of injury news that came after Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona last night as Valverde could be in doubt for the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against Liverpool scheduled for Wednesday.

The Uruguayan midfielder, who was substituted in the 61st minute, suffered a strong knock in the sole of his foot.

His inclusion in the team against Liverpool hangs in the balance, sources inside the club told Efe.
