Spain reopens to tourists with proof of vaccination
Madrid, Jun 7 (EFE).- Vaccinated travelers from outside the European Union’s free-travel area can enter Spain with no restrictions from Monday.
Travelers must present a vaccine certificate proving they have completed a full course of a Covid-19 vaccine more than 14 days prior to travel.
Spanish authorities are accepting six vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency and the World Health Organization, which includes Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Jonhson & Johnson and two Chinese-made vaccines, Sinopharm and Sinovac.
Tourists from low-risk zones, which includes the United Kingdom, will not face any restrictions when entering Spain and do not need to present proof of vaccination.
The new rules in Spain are unilateral, and British travelers are not likely to travel to the Iberian nation, a popular tourist destination, in their droves until the UK lifts restrictions for returning travelers.
People traveling from India, Brazil and South Africa are excluded from restriction-free travel, even with full vaccination proof, a decision that seeks to limit the spread of virulent coronavirus variants.
Some of Spain’s autonomous regions including Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia voted against the new travel rules.
The EU called for caution with regards to relaxation of travel restrictions and recommended on Friday that a negative PCR test be required for all travelers.
