“I don’t care about the record”: Doncic says as Slovenia wins olympic debut

Saitama, Japan, Jul 26 (EFE).- Luka Doncic said that setting records was not his target after he scored 48 points to lead Slovenia to a 118-100 win over Argentina in their olympic debut in men’s basketball on Monday.

Doncic’s point tally is tied with Australia’s Eddie Palubinskas for the second-highest points ever scored at the Games, following record-holder Oscar Schmidt of Brazil with 55 points.

“I don’t care about the record. We have to win and that’s what we came here for,” said the Dallas Mavericks star after the match in the Saitama Super Arena.

Doncic, the two-time All-NBA first team selection, said even though Argentina is a tough team with amazing players, “we played really well and played really good defense.”

When asked about playing in the Games for the first time ever, Doncic said that it is an exceptional experience for all the team.

“It’s our first Olympics and we won our first game, and I think it’s very special for everyone on our team.

“It’s amazing to see all the stars in the Olympics. There are so many sports,” he concluded.
