Zara-owner Inditex operating over 500 stores in Russia despite war

Madrid, Mar 4 (EFE).- Spanish retail giant Inditex, which owns fashion brands such as Zara, Bershka and Pull&Bear, continues to operate more than 500 stores across Russia while other companies like H&M announced their temporary closure in the country following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Inditex has a total of 527 outlets across Russia, where its brand Bershka is the most popular with 106 stores, followed by Pull&Bear (87), Zara (86), Stradivarius (76), Oysho (63), Massimo Dutti (53), Zara Home (44) and Uterqüe (12).

The company has yet to announce whether or not it would join other retailers like Swedish brand H&M, which said it would suspend its operations in Russia on Wednesday, but declined to comment on the situation when consulted by Efe.

Brands such as Nike, Adidas, Mango and Burberry also announced temporary closures in Russia.

In a statement Wednesday, the H&M group said it was ”deeply concerned about the tragic developments in Ukraine.”

“H&M Group has decided to temporarily pause all sales in Russia. The stores in Ukraine have already been temporarily closed due to the safety of customers and colleagues.”

Swedish furniture giant Ikea also said it would pause its business operations with Russia.

Other companies such as Starbucks, Coca-Cola and McDonalds remain open in Russia.

Inditex has closed its stores in Ukraine for security reasons. EFE
