Australian zoologist pleads guilty to raping, torturing, killing dogs

Sydney, Australia, Sep 26 (EFE).- Australian zoologist Adam Corden Britton, an expert on crocodiles, pleaded guilty to raping, torturing and killing dozens of dogs, as well as accessing and sharing child abuse material, judicial sources confirmed Tuesday.

Britton, who pleaded guilty on Monday before the Supreme Court of the Northern Territory, the highest court in the jurisdiction, faces a total of 56 charges for animal abuse, as well as for accessing and transmitting sexual material.

Britton raped his pets, Ursa and Bolt, in his country home in the Australian city of Darwin since at least 2014, according to prosecution documents accessed by EFE.

In addition, between Nov. 17, 2020 and Apr. 22, 2022 – the day of his arrest -, the academic “intentionally” tortured, raped and killed at least 39 of 42 dogs, including puppies, which he bought online, the court documents added.

The 51-year-old academic used to send photos to owners who had sold him their pets, assuring them that they were okay, before torturing, raping and killing them in a huge container full of cameras and recording devices he had inside his property.

The crocodile expert used a pseudonym to share these videos in an encrypted Telegram group with people inclined towards animal abuse and zoophilia, according to the documents.

Last year, the police found computers, cell phones, cameras, external hard drives, weapons, and sex toys inside Britton’s property in Darwin, as well as remains of injured animals, corpses of decomposing puppies and heads of dogs.

The defendant will appear again before the Court in Darwin from Sep. 13, as deliberations begin on his sentencing, which could continue for several days, the judicial officer said. EFE
