Woman Accused Of Trying To Hit Officer With Stolen Vehicle

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — A woman is accused of trying to hit an officer with a stolen vehicle.
Bethany Herron, 28, is charged with assault against a first responder, evading arrest, intentionally evading arrest in a vehicle and theft of property.
On Saturday just before 3:30 a.m., officers tried to perform a traffic stop on a 2003 Civic at Park Avenue and Highland Street.
The driver of the vehicle refused to stop so the officers followed the car onto Ridgefield Road.
The vehicle then made a turn and began to drive towards the officer’s vehicle head-on and side-wiped the rear driver of the squad car.
One of the suspects got out of the car and ran away, and an officer chased him before detaining him.
The driver of the 2003 Civic identified as, Herron, attempted to run over the officer with the vehicle but was not successful, according to the affidavit.
After Herron’s vehicle came to a stop she was taken into custody.
Police say Herron told officers she bought the vehicle for $400.00 from a man named “Twin” a month earlier and had no idea it had been stolen, but she had no paperwork to verify her information.
Investigators then made a call to the owner of the vehicle, and he told police that no one had his permission to steal his car, according to police.
Herron is being held on a $30,000 bond.
She is expected to appear in court on Feb. 6.
