Magnus Carlsen, Judit Polgar join bull run themed chess show in Madrid

Madrid, Jul 3 (EFE).- Reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen and the best female player in history Judit Polgar on Sunday presided over a chess spectacle in central Madrid to mark the start of the iconic San Fermin running of the bulls festival later this week.

Sixty tables were set out and six other professionals — Alan Pichot, Pepe Cuenca, Rey Enigma, Marta García, María Eizaguerri and Ameyalli Ávila — also took on a crowd of amateurs playing 10 games simultaneously.

Participants wore bull costumes and the emblematic red neckerchief worn at the running of the bulls in Pamplona, which is gearing up to get underway on July 7.

Mikel Urmeneta, the founder of clothing and image brand Kukuxumusu and one of the organizers of the event, said the idea was to bring a little bit of Pamplona to Madrid.EFE
