Major blaze rips through multi-story building in Sydney

Sydney, Australia, May 25 (EFE).- The walls of a seven-story building in the Australian city of Sydney collapsed on Thursday after a massive fire ripped through the premises, the New South Wales (NSW) fire and rescue department said.

Images published by the fire brigade showed one of the building’s walls falling down and charred vehicles, while local media reported the fire had completely engulfed the building structure.

There have been no reports of fatalities or injuries.

The blaze, which has formed thick clouds of black smoke that could be seen in various parts of the city, has been brought under control, a spokesperson for the NSW said in a news conference in Sydney.

A firefighter sustained slight injuries while fighting the flames in the building, which seemed to be uninhabited, the spokesperson told ABC, Australia’s national broadcaster.

Some 100 firefighters and 20 vehicles were deployed to extinguish the fire in the building on Randle Street, as hundreds of people were evacuated from surrounding buildings by the NSW police

The cause of the fire remains unknown.EFE
