Biden, Lavrov arrive in Indonesia ahead of G20 summit

Bali, Indonesia, Nov 13 (EFE).- United States president Joe Biden and Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov arrived in Bali on Sunday ahead of the G20 leaders’ summit, the first such meeting since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Air Force One plane in which Biden was traveling arrived at 9:47 p.m. local time (1:47 p.m. GMT) in Bali, from Phnom Penh (Cambodia), where the US president had been taking part in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) annual summit.

Lavrov, who is leading the Russian delegation at the intergovernmental forum, on Sunday accused the West of “militarizing” Southeast Asia in a bid to counter Russian and Chinese interests in the region.

French president Emmanuel Macron, Argentine president Alberto Fernández, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi, and Spanish prime minister Pedro Sánchez – who is attending due to Spain’s permanent guest status in the group – are also expected to attend the G20 summit slated for November 15-16.

The G20 represents the most developed and emerging economies in the world.

It includes Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, the United States, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Turkey and the European Union.

Its members represent around 90% of world’s GDP, 80% of global trade and two-thirds of the planet’s population, as well as around 60% of all agricultural land and close to 80% of global trade in agricultural products. EFE
