Casemiro move from Real Madrid to Man Utd confirmed

Madrid, Aug 19 (EFE).- Real Madrid and Manchester United announced Friday that they reached agreement on the transfer of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to the Premier League club.

“Casemiro has played over 500 professional games, including 63 at international level for his native Brazil. He has won 17 major honors in his illustrious career including five Champions League titles and the Copa America. We all look forward to welcoming Casemiro to Old Trafford,” United said in a statement.

The Blancos are planning a festive sendoff for Casemiro, who joined the team in 2013, next Monday at the club’s training complex.

The acquisition of the 30-year-old defensive midfielder is the first fruit of United’s quest for reinforcements after opening the Premier League season with back-to-back defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

While neither club disclosed any figures, British media reported that Man United will pay Real Madrid 60 million euros for Casemiro and up to 10 million euros in add-ons tied to performance.

Hours before the deal was made official, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Casemiro wanted to go to United.

“I spoke to him about this topic this morning. He wants a new challenge, a new opportunity. I understand, the club understands, because of what Casemiro has done for this club and the person he is. We have to respect this desire he has,” the coach said.

“If he leaves and they reach a deal, we have the resources to replace him,” Ancelotti added. EFE omb-rmm/jt/eld/dr
