Man City keep pressure on Arsenal with easy win over Liverpool

Sports Desk, Apr 1 (EFE).- Manchester City kept the pressure on league leaders Arsenal with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Liverpool at home on Saturday.

Against the run of play, the visitors opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Diogo Jota broke through City’s high defensive line, with Mohamed Salah eventually finishing past Ederson.

City, who had started the brighter, were soon level through Julian Alvarez who was given a rare start in the absence of the injured Erling Haaland.

The Argentine played a key role as the home side went in front moments after half-time, as he set Riyad Mahrez free down the right flank and his precise cross left Kevin de Bruyne with an easy tap-in.

Liverpool were reeling, and the Merseysiders found themselves two goals down minutes later when Ilkay Gundogan scored after Alvarez had seen his shot blocked by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The game was effectively settled at that point, but City continued to pour forward as Liverpool were unable to respond.

Jack Grealish, who had performed well throughout, added a deserved fourth on 74 minutes after being played in by De Bruyne.

The result means reigning champions City are still within reach of Arsenal in first place. EFE
