Man City owner to pay for fans’ trips to Porto for CL final

London, May 18 (EFE).- Manchester City’s owner Sheikh Mansour will cover the cost of Sky Blues fans’ flights to Porto for the Champions League final against Chelsea, the club announced on Tuesday.

“Thousands of City supporters will benefit from the initiative which is designed to ease the financial pressure on fans who have faced – and are still facing – challenging circumstances due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Manchester City said in a statement.

Some 6,000 City fans can travel to Porto to cheer for their team that will be playing their maiden Champions League final on 29 May.

The final was initially scheduled to be played in Istanbul, but coronavirus-related travel restrictions imposed by the British government forced Uefa to move the game to allow for English fans to attend.

“It is incredibly important that as many fans as possible have the opportunity to attend this special game. Especially those who have supported Manchester City through good and bad times for so many years,” Sheikh Mansour said in a statement.

City are on course to win a treble, having secured the Premier League and the League Cup titles. EFE
