Japan’s Princess Yoko discharged from hospital after Covid recovery

Tokyo, Feb 16 (EFE).- Princess Yoko of Japan was discharged from hospital on Wednesday, a week after being admitted for pneumonia derived from Covid-19, a spokesperson for the Imperial Household Agency confirmed to Efe.

The 38-year-old second cousin of Emperor Naruhito is so far the only member of the Japanese imperial family known to have contracted the virus.

Princess Yoko tested positive on Feb. 8 and was initially treated at the Imperial Palace hospital facilities before being transferred to University of Tokyo Hospital a day later after developing pneumonia.

After recovering, the princess left the hospital early Wednesday for her residence, although no further details have emerged.

The Imperial Household Agency has not yet announced the resumption of her official activities.

Princess Yoko is the younger daughter of the late Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, a cousin of Emperor Emeritus Akihito. EFE
