Sports Desk, May 9 (EFE).- Manchester United on Sunday notched a 3-1 comeback win at Aston Villa that postpones their crosstown rival Manchester City’s Premier League title celebrations.
Manchester City needed Aston Villa to defeat the Red Devils to seal the Premier League title, something that appeared might be in the offing when Bertrand Traore gave the home side the lead midway through the first half.
The Burkinabe forward fired a left-footed shot from inside the area that found the top right corner of the Manchester United goal in the 24th minute.
Aston Villa maintained their lead throughout the first half but they were unable to weather United’s second-period reaction.
It began with a penalty kick awarded to United after Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz fouled Paul Pogba inside the area in the 50th minute. Bruno Fernandes successfully delivered from the 12-yard spot.
Four minutes later, the Red Devils struck again on another left-footer by Mason Greenwood from inside the area.
Super-sub Edinson Cavani headed home a Marcus Rashford cross with three minutes to go before second-half stoppage time.
With the win, Manchester United have 70 points and are in the second spot on the Premier League table, 10 points behind City, while Aston Villa are 11th with 48 points.
