London, Feb 2 (EFE).-Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood on Wednesday was released on bail pending further investigation after being arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.
The 20-year-old’s girlfriend published a series of Instagram posts with allegations of sexual and physical violence.
The online social media images and videos posted by Harriet Robson showed bruises and cuts on her body, with a caption reading “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me.”
An audio recording of Greenwood allegedly forcing himself on Robson has also been leaked.
Shortly after the allegations, Manchester United announced that Greenwood would not train or play for the Premier League clubs until further notice, while sponsors such as the sportswear company Nike have suspended his deals.
He was also removed from FIFA 22 video game.
Meanwhile, Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy appeared in court on Wednesday with a new allegation of attempted rape to face nine charges in total, including seven counts of rape involving different women.
The 27-year-old Frenchman will stand trial on July 25 and could last up to six weeks.
Mendy had been in custody since August but was released earlier last month on bail.EFE
