Manchester City’s Gundogan tests positive for Covid-19
London, Sep 21 (efe-epa).- Manchester City’s German midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has tested positive for Covid-19, the Premier League club confirmed Monday.
Pep Guardiola’s team is due to play Wolverhampton Wanderers this evening.
Manchester City in a statement said: “Ilkay is now observing a 10-day period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.
“Everyone at the Club wishes Ilkay a speedy recovery.”
Midfielder Riyad Mahrez and defender Aymeric Laporte tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month.
The duo returned to training last week before the team’s season opener away to Wolves at 8.15pm local time tonight.
City have a busy week ahead. They travel to Molineux with the tough task of taking on a side that is particularly strong on the counter attack through the pace and power of Spanish forward Adama Traoure.
The Manchester side also have a date with Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Thursday followed by a Premier League fixture on Sunday against Leicester City.
Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres joined City over the summer and the team will have its eyes set on a league title this year, if it can fend off Liverpool.
