Mancini wants to keep Italy job despite World Cup blow

Rome, Mar 28 (EFE).- Roberto Mancini on Monday said he was eager to continue at the helm of the Italian national team after North Macedonia denied his team a spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“I want to stay because I’m still young, my goal was to win a European Championship and a World Cup,” Mancini, who steered the team to win the Euro 2020, said at a presser ahead of a friendly against Turkey.

“I still need time to achieve the latter. I like my job, I know I can still have a lot of fun. And with the guys, I can organize something important,” he added.

A last-gasp goal from North Macedonia eliminated Italy from the World Cup qualification playoffs semifinal last week, leaving Mancini’s job hanging in the air.

“I spoke to (Italian football association) president Gabriele Gravina, we have the same ideas on everything,” Mancini said.

“We have to start over and think about different situations, and we’ll see what happens next,” he added. EFE
