Sports Desk, Jan 17 (efe-epa).- Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín kicked off the year in style on Sunday beating Taiwan’s Tzu Ying Tai in the Yonex Thailand Open.
The reigning Olympic champion beat her opponent 21-9 and 21-16 in 41 minutes, a result obtained through aggressive and convincing play.
Marín dominated the match from the first point and did not take the pressure off her rival, who was overcome by the energy and determination of the eventual winner.
The Spaniard breezed through the first set 21-9 and Tai tried to claw it back in the second, but Marín gave little space for the player from Taiwan to control the rhythm of play.
The win early in the year puts the wind in Marín’s sails as she sets her eyes on two big prizes this year, the Tokyo Olympics and the World Championship in Huelva, Spain.
Speaking in a video after Sunday’s game, Marín said: “It’s a super reward in the first tournament of the year. It has been a super important week for me, because I believe that the determination that I have shown on the track will help me a lot.”EFE-EPA
