Marvel’s Hawkeye series plays up Christmas spirit

By David Villafranca

Los Angeles, USA, Nov 22 (EFE).- After bringing adventures, impressive fights and extremely dangerous world-saving missions to the screen, Marvel Studios decided to step away from epic superhero battles and instead soak up the Christmas spirit in Hawkeye.

The new TV show, starring Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld, is set to debut on November 24 on Disney Plus, where other Marvel shows such as WandaVision and Loki were released earlier this year.

“We move into a very practical, real world, which is Christmas in New York. He’s not being a superhero – he’s on vacation with his family,” Renner told Efe in an interview.

Following his numerous appearances in the Avengers film series, Renner returns as Clint Barton to once again pick up his bow and quiver in the show that features Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

This show does not hide the traumatic experiences Hawkeye went through in Avengers: Endgame but it is also filled with happiness, smiles and the holiday spirit in New York.

“There is a wonderful balance and I think that sets the tone for ultimately what happens throughout the show for all the characters”, he said.

“Without giving away too much, everybody’s got to deal with certain difficulties or tragedies in their lives, things to overcome,” Renner, who was nominated for an Oscar for his roles in The Hurt Locker (2008) and The Town (2010).

Thanks to her role in True Grit film that earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress and other movies like The Edge of Seventeen, Pitch Perfect franchise, Bumblebee, Steinfeld has emerged as one of Hollywood’s rising stars.

Now that she has landed a Marvel universe role, Steinfeld said “the fact that the character alone is so special and so loved by so many fans who have been waiting a long time to see her brought to life, I found that to be very exciting.”

The actress also stressed that having Renner as an on-screen partner was a plus for joining the project.

“There really wasn’t anything that didn’t sound great about it all. But I was excited about the idea of playing this character, someone who is strong, independent over-achiever who wants to be in the game and wants to do good and help people,” she said.

In the show, Hawkeye and Kate Bishop join forces to solve a mysterious robbery in New York.EFE
