Arise Sir Lewis: Seven-time F1 champion Hamilton knighted at Windsor Castle

London, Dec 15 (EFE).- Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton on Wednesday was knighted by Prince Charles, a few days after narrowly missing out on what would have been a record-breaking eighth Formula One world title.

“The seven-time F1 World Champion received his Knighthood from The Prince of Wales at today’s Investiture ceremony held at Windsor Castle,” the British Royal Family posted on Twitter.

The Briton was accompanied by his mother during the ceremony.

The Mercedes’ driver was one lap away from an eighth title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Sunday but was pipped to the finish line by Max Verstappen, who took his maiden championship.

Hamilton became the fourth Formula One competitor to become a knight following Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart, and the first active driver to receive the honor. EFE
