Greenwood shines as Man U blanks Wolves while waiting for Cristiano Ronaldo

International Sports Desk, Aug 29 (EFE).- Mason Greenwood pulled Manchester United’s fat out of the fire on Sunday with a 1-0 win against the Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium, their second Premier League win as they wait for the arrival of Cristiana Ronaldo, who is expected to boost the chances of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s squad.

Cristiano’s return is a new plus for Man United, with the Reds pointing to the fact that the Portuguese star has scored in every game he’s played in.

But he’s still not back, given that his signing took place just a few days back as Man U went on the road to the Wolves’ home turf, dealing them their third consecutive loss.

So far, Bruno Lage’s boys have not yet scored this season and are hovering insipidly at the bottom of the table.

Nevertheless, the Wolves fought a good fight during most of the match, and although the Reds generally controlled the ball, they couldn’t seem to create many good chances for themselves.

Solksjaer, in fact, resorted after the break to putting in Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani and France’s Anthony Martial, veterans who – even so – proved not to be factors in the match.

It was Greenwood who was the deciding factor once again, capturing the ball near the local area with just 10 minutes remaining in regulation time, finding space and sending in a shot that beat goaltender Jose Sa for the tally that proved to be the gamewinner.

Wolverhampton couldn’t deliver a reply in the time remaining, but even with the Man U win fans are still waiting to see what Cristiano Ronaldo can manufacture for the squad.

David De Gea was great in the Man U net and, with the win, the team established a new all-time English soccer record, extending their road unbeaten run to 28 games.

Last Friday, Man United made the long-expected announcement that they had signed a 19.7 million pound deal with Juventus to get the 36-year-old back on the roster 12 years after he departed for temporarily greener pastures at Real Madrid.
